Rather than focus on a specific issue, this illustration depicts the sense of inner strength that comes from feeling supported by those around you. We all have a right, beginning from when we are children, to feel a sense of security in the form of the bonds we have with the people around us, and even in the form of something simple like the feeling of being accepted and loved for the person that we are, which a lot of people do struggle to find. We all carry the voices, strengths, and guidance of the people we have met along our paths, and the accumulation of these help us not only in our own lives but impact the lives of those we come across.

About the artist

Tess Lockey is a storyteller and illustrator born in Hong Kong, raised in the Philippines and now living and working in Brooklyn, New York. She obtained her Bachelor’s at Ringling College of Art and Design, honing her skills while also serving as an orientation leader, student writing consultant, and gallery show curator.
