ON ‘UP AND COMING’

Inspired after walking through the streets of South and East London, my piece ‘Up and Coming’ depicts feelings of both love and passion, as well as showcases the vibrancy of the area. These districts are a reflection of the diverse cultures and history belonging to the people that have actively shaped it. Even with all the new bright lights, curated vintage stores, aesthetically pleasing cafes and tall glass buildings popping up in the distance - it’s hard to ignore the underlying sense of loss and urgency that permeates the city. I used the medium of collage to address contemporary joy juxtaposed with gentrification, often labelled and seen as ‘community development’.
